Equilibrium ist ein Zustand, in dem sich aufeinander wirkende Kräfte ausgleichen; Gleichgewicht.
Der obere Teil der artothek ist durch eine dünne Trennschicht, eine Membran in Form einer Folie, vom unteren Teil getrennt. Je nach Licht und Position des Betrachters ändert sich deren optische Durchlässigkeit. „The Garden of Equilibrium” ist wesentlich vom Mihokan Atrium in Shimane, Japan, dem Heimatort Yoshie Shibaharas, inspiriert. Das ehemalige Ryokan (Reisegasthaus) ist im architektonischen Sukiya-Stil der vorindustriellen Zeit Japans erbaut, mit der charakteristischen Beziehung zwischen Innen und Außen. Der zentrale Innenraum des Atriums war gleichzeitig Außenraum: ein Garten.

Eine wichtige Rolle in dieser Rauminstallation spielen „ursprüngliche Landschaften“, die jeder Mensch, geprägt durch die frühe Kindheit, tief im Herzen verankert, besitzt. Oft sind es eher imaginäre, als reale Landschaften. „The Garden of Equilibrium” führt das Publikum auf eine Reise in seine eigenen „ursprünglichen Landschaften” und bietet eine neue Form der Wahrnehmung und des Erlebens.
Unsere Wahrnehmung pendelt stets zwischen Bewusstsein und Unterbewusstsein. Die Grenze, die in „The Garden of Equilibrium” als Trennschicht visuell erlebbar ist, wird mit der Zeit immer durchlässiger und lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf Dinge und Phänomene, die unserer bewussten Wahrnehmung entwischen. Es ist eine Einladung, diese Dinge erneuert zu reflektieren.

Equilibrium is a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced.
The upper part of the artothek is separated from the lower part by a thin separating layer, a membrane in the form of a film. Depending on the light and the position of the viewer, its optical permeability changes.
„The Garden of Equilibrium“ is largely inspired by the Mihokan Atrium in Shimane, Japan, the hometown of Yoshie Shibahara. The former ryokan (traveller's inn) is built in the Sukiya architectural style of pre-industrial Japan, with the characteristic relationship between inside and outside. The central interior space of the atrium was also an exterior space: a garden.
„Primordial landscapes” play an important role in this installation, which every person is shaped by early childhood and deeply anchored in the heart and owns. Often these are imaginary rather than real landscapes. „The Garden of Equilibrium“ takes the audience on a journey into their own „primordial landscapes“ and offers a new form of perception and experience.
Our perception constantly oscillates between conscious and subconscious. The border, which can be experienced visually as a separating layer in „The Garden of Equilibrium", becomes increasingly permeable over time and draws attention to things and phenomena that elude our conscious perception. It is an invitation to reflect on these things in a renewed way.
